Oriental Dreams & Tales of the Orient Cd Samples & Workshop

Today`s posting is in answer to a query about the Oriental Dreams CD and some ideas with the cd

So I have put together a fresh workshop along with some other samples I have done from the Orienatl Dreams cd & the Tales of the Oriental cd

I have to say until Joanna brought out these cd`s I hadn`t ever done an Oriental style card – but I have enjoyed the challenge , not that it was difficult as the images often speak for themselves

So picking a new image I found this wonderful rose and I loved both backing papers and thought often Oriental can be bold and with the faded background it would work well – teamed with onyx stardream to tone the colours down and add to the Oriental feel

Another reason for doing this card as people have asked how to do a peacock waterfall card and as this is a large topper a side waterfall card like this one is the best way forward – so all that is needed is to change the image

Waterfall Oriental Dreams Card Workshop

1 Take your image and print it out four times – I have used the 2nd size down image so it`s nice and big and using the snapshot tool copied and pasted it into a plain document and repeated 4 times so you get all the toppers the same size – full details are on the help me headings

Turn your image landscape so when you would have the waterfall pulley sidewards the image will be the right way up

Make the waterfall using the workshop I have already completed before on my blog – click here for details

3 And again how the 4 images will look on your card

4 Now this was all going to be step by step but the card is just matting and layering with the brads of the waterfall section going through the back and then mounted onto the card – as in the workshop

I have then added 2 coins over the brads & then paper roses over the hole where the tassel passes through

6 Then in the bottom corner I have added a rose that I have decoupaged with 4 layers just to give depth and add to the design balance

So a card that isn`t overly Oriental but would be well received for many occasion

Here are some samples to show a few more ideas

1 Oriental Dreams was used for the fan sample – the backing papers and useful papers with borders on them lead for different textures to be used for this one – the middle backing paper was printed on parchment as was the border and the background paper was on a plain white rey text card

The fans were printed off and then pleated to add depth to the design

2 Oriental Dreams – funny this was my first card when doing the Oriental theme and the main image is printed on canvas for texture and the backing paper was torn and gold added to the edges – then matting and layering finished with a BIG tassel from a local shop and some beads we found on holiday

3  An Oriental design using an oval Scrap Magic template and the Kimono stamp which is stamped onto a backing paper from the Oriental Dreams Cd and using 3D gloss to give some depth to the Kimono

Backing paper is also from the cd and a little stampbord embellishment at the top like the technique I  featured in this workshop

The scrap magic piece itself was printed onto printable acetate to give a masculine feel to the card and it is also raised up with foam pads as I backed the acetate with white card so the pads didn`t show through – then finished off the base edges with Sakura gold pentouch

4 My first ever Parasol I made from a Arty Farty Template , It`s using backing papers from the Oriental Dreams Cd and finished with a tassel as well !!! – the parasol stick was a skewer from the local butchers and wooden beads we picked up on holiday from a pound shop

I just adore the backing paper colours and finished the parasol edges with Sakura Gold Pentouch

5 Oriental Dreams was used for the stunning backing papers which the Kimono was stamped on and the decoupaged out

6  Well today`s card is a sample done printing this image from Tales of the Orient– onto inkjet silk – the silk has then been taped under an aperture placed on the base card – to add some dimension I have used 3 small pieces of stampbord and placed the image on it and then triple embossed it

The image was attached using double sided tape – the image was printed on card and then edged with gold Sakura pentouch  and then triple embossed with Ultra Thick Embossing Powder – the paint pad was just an image using google and then I have used some 3D gloss to highlight the paint – all finished off with some metal corners

For the workshop on the tile click here  – & it`s a useful embellishment technique for any work

7  This sample is one from the Tales of the Orient cd – the image is printed onto pearl paper and the main image has been decoupaged – including the butterflies on the tapestry – the imaged is sat on a mounted piece of matching card with the frame placed over the top and tilted to add to the look

All topped off with a fan embellishment and a ribbon and flowerto capture the ladies hair

8 This is an image from the Tales of the Orient cd – it should be in colour but I have set the printer to a sepia setting and printed – just for a tone effect for the card and used the backing paper from the pad and then added decoupaged blossom from the Oriental stamps

9 I have just added this card as I felt it was a great base idea for an Oriental themed card – just change the image

10 Here showing the inside of the card

Whoops that`s a bit of a write up but it`s nice to have everything in one place so you don`t have to go hunting – and may help with some idea`s – many of the samples I have just added the words from the original posting of that card if you think it`s a bit full on – but this way it`s all there

Thanks for looking in – Suzanne

I need your help in finding Isobel Jones – the winner of the blog candy – I have tried the e-mail address that the orignal post was entered on and it`s come up as a failure so I just hope she comes forward – I have tried Isoble on the forum and sadly it`s not her
